A nutrient that is consumed in large quantities and forms the bulk of the biomass of an organism.
In animals, the macronutrients are carbohydrates, fats and proteins. In plants, the macronutrients include calcium, magnesium, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulphur.
