Definitions

The Post-Modern Lifestyle Project (herein "PMLP") is a research and educational project operated by Stephen M Brown (herein the "Founder") and by PMLP employees and volunteers (herein "Staff").

PMLP provides websites, forums, chat rooms, health and nutritional tracking tools, and other services (collectively, the "Platform") and produces or sponsors the production of publications, seminars, audio recordings and video recordings (collectively, "Content") available to registered members of the community (herein "Members") and other users of the Platform (herein "Guests").

Content is contributed by PMLP Staff, Members, Users and Guests (collectively, "Content Providers").

PMLP is committed to protecting the privacy of its Members, Customers and Users of the Platform. This document discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices and is applicable to the Platform.

Information Gathering and Visitor Tracking

Certain information is trackable about you when you visit any of the PMLP websites.

Your IP Address

Your IP address is assigned to you by your Internet service provider and is visible and trackable by all web servers. Your IP address can be used to pinpoint your geographical location (country and city) and identify your internet service provider.

Our web servers automatically record details of your activities referenced by your IP address.

Your Web Browser

Your web browser information about the identity and version of certain software installed on your computer. That includes information about your computer operating system, your web browser and plugins installed in your web browser. Your web browser may also identify your screen resolution, your  language preferences.

When information provided by your web browser is combined with your IP address web servers are able to distinguish visitors from each other and, when combined with other information such as your login account profile may lead to personally identifying you.

Cookies

All modern web browsers are capable of storing and retrieving information sent to it by web servers in the form of a “session token”, more commonly referred to as a “cookie”.

Cookies are primarily used to positively distinguish your interactions with a website as distinct from other visitors. Specifically cookies make it possible for Users to login to PMLP websites and provide authentication of your identity, as required for preventing visitors from impersonating each other or accessing each other’s personal information, stored on PMLP web servers.

Cookies are also be used to track your activities on the websites, include pages visited and purchases made. Specifically, we use cookies for the following:

  • to enable session persistence. If you are a registered User, you will not have to re-enter your password for every page you view.
  • to profile Users of the Platform. This gives us a better sense of your preferences, for the purpose of increasing the relevance of content suggestions we make to you.
  • to generate visitor demographics and statistics to further improve our content and services to all our Users.

For security reasons, we encrypt the content of the cookies we send to your browser. Furthermore, we do not store personal information in your cookies, such as your User ID, email address or password.

Local Storage

All modern web browsers are capable of storing and retrieving information sent to it by web servers in the form of a “local storage”. Our websites do not utilise local storage in your web browser for identification or tracking purposes.

Account Registration

When you register for an account on any of our websites, we request certain personal information such as your name, your postal address, your telephone number and email address. This information is used to create your login account profile.

Information provided by third Parties

PMLP may engae the services of outside companies such as Bing, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google to provide additional demographic info about our visitors, such as age, interest and location.

How we use information we collect from you.

In the normal course of your visits to our websites, we record your IP address along with each request made by your web browser. For example, if you click on a link within any of our websites, we record the corresponding requests for the content associated with that link and the results (success or failure of delivery of  the requested content). This helps us to administer our sites, diagnose problems, and to provide traffic patterns and demographic information about the visitors to our sites.

We use cookies to identify you as a repeat visitor and, in the case of our registered users (customers and members), provide authentication of your identity. We use that information to enhance your experience by tracking your activities and providing relevant suggestions or content based on your preferences, garnered from those activities.

In the event of an attempted breach of web server security we use identifying information such as IP addresses or cookies to facilitate blocking access to our websites.

We use your personal account information for the purpose of communicating with you. Such communication includes email newsletters, product or service offerings, confirmation of purchases you make, requests for payments or any other correspondence retaliated to the administration of your account and your relationship with us.

Tracking Via Other Sites

PMLP websites may contain links to other websites. PMLP has no control over the information gathering and privacy practices of such websites.

PMLP uses the services of an outside service provider to screen for content submissions that may violate our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). Specifically we use this service to block any forum posts and blog comments that contain unsolicited commercial messages (also known as “spam”) or vulgar language, and to report such violations to a central registry. This central registry facilitates blocking violators from posting on other websites as well.

Public Forums and Personal Data

PMLP provides public forums (sometimes referred to as electronic bulletin boards or BBSes) Blogs and Articles which may be used by its members and visitors to contribute messages or comments, to be read by other members and/or visitors. Any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public and you should exercise caution if you intend to disclose information of a personal nature. Please refer to our Submissions Policy before making such contributions.

Security

We endeavour to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. PMLP has measures in place to protect the security of our network servers and the information under our control. Still, there is no guarantee that such information is 100% safe. You should exercise caution when disclosing information of a personal nature, including but not limited to your name, personal contact information, bank and credit details.

Credit Card Transactions

In accordance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, we do not collect or store credit card information on any of our computer servers or any other electronic or printed form.

All credit card transactions are performed by third-party payment processors which are PCI compliant. When PMLP websites request payment for which you have selected Credit Card as your payment method, your web browser will be redirected to such payment processor for completion of your payment transaction.

If anyone claiming to be PMLP staff asks for such bank or credit card details, do not comply with that request and contact us directly to notify us of such request.

Contact Information and Opt-Out

When you register an account with us, we will request personal information from you (such as your name, email address, postal address or telephone numbers). We keep that information in the strictest confidence. It is never given, loaned or sold to third parties. We, of course, will use that information in the normal coarse of doing business with you for our contact and billing purposes.

Even if you are not a PMLP Client or Member but have, nonetheless, supplied us with such information, we may occasionally send you product promotions, special offers or news about our organisation. You have the option of “opting out” of receiving such communications from us. That is, you may request not to receive, or you may request to stop receiving such information. Please refer to Corrections & Updates (below) for information on how to do so. We never send email in connection with products or services that are not clearly and directly related to PMLP or its services. We never send such email to anyone who hasn’t directly supplied contact information to us, and we do not buy, sell or otherwise exchange mailing lists. If you are receiving email that appears to violate the above policy, please send a copy of the offending message (via the “contact” link at the top of this page). Please include the entire message, including the full message header. We will investigate all suspected violations of this Privacy Policy and Anti-spam policy to the fullest.

Corrections & Updates

We provide the ability for you to update or modify the information previously provided. If you are a Client or Member with a User ID and Password, you are able to update certain information by yourself, via our websites. If you are unable to make those modifications yourself, you may send your corrections via our Contact Page (a “Contact” link is at the top of this page) and the information will be updated for you.
