[ Certified_Organic ]
An agricultural product that is certified through a formalised approval process.
Regulations for what constitutes “organic” vary widely from country to country, but generally sets standards for growing, processing, storing and shipping of products. Regulations may include:
- avoidance of synthetic chemicals, such as chemical fertilisers and pesticides
- not produced from genetically modified seeds (GMO)
- not irradiated
- produced on farmlands that are free of artificial agricultural chemicals or pesticides.
Certified-organic foods are not always pesticide-free. Chemical pesticides and herbicides may be carried by the wind from adjacent farmlands and contaminate organic_farmlands.
