Conditionally-Essential Nutrient

[ Conditionally-Essential Nutrient ]

A nutrient that, in the presence of certain other nutrients, an organism can endogenously synthesise and, therefore, need not be acquired from dietary sources.

This definition does not consider conditions which may result in the demand exceeding the body’s capacity for synthesis, resulting in a nutritional deficiency, including the shift of burden onto providing sufficient quantity of the precursors of endogenously synthesis.
