Glycolysis

    [ Glycolysis ]

    The enzymatic oxidation of glucose into ATP and either pyruvic acid or lactic acid.

    In the presence of oxygen (aerobic), the dominant product of glycolysis is pyruvic acid. When oxygen is unavailable (anaerobic), the dominant product is lactic acid.
